Memorial Day Weekend
prime time
people watching
crowds flock
to reclaim the Jersey shore

belly button rings
wink at the boys
above low rise
black spandex
that don’t qualify as pants

tribal tattoos
stretched by time
and tonnage
soak up the sun
after a winter
in hiding

cheap denim
cutoffs, capris, cargos
acid washed
ripped
or rolled
sail in the ocean breeze

fat families
stuff fried foods
into their faces

crying babies
scream
for
one more ride
one more ice cream
one more game
one more minute
one more
more

large groups
stop
stand
and stare
blocking
walkways
entrances
exits

a rainbow of sweatshirts
with slogans
that will be out of place
in the real world
parade along the boardwalk

the summer begins
at the Jersey shore
